UWT interview

uwt-portrait

Hi Riccardo & Gilberto, we’ve been rockin’ to your tunes quite a few times already but now we want to know who the hell you are?

We’re Riccardo & Gilberto and we’re Useless Wooden Toys. The project was born in 2002. We grew up as a guitarist in love with post rock and a BBoy who used to play a lot of funk and hip hop records on his turntables. Then we discovered synthesizers, samplers and electronic music. We love sampling and listening to old music: italian prog, italo disco, blaxsploitation soundtracks, old school hip hop… our motto is ” It ain’t you finding the sample … but it’s the sample finding you ” we’re like a californian surfer who is waiting for the perfect wave ;-)

Elena Manfredi: street manager

bff_elena

Hi Elena, now it’s you turn! do you have something to tell us?

You’ll find loads of different jobs in my cv. I tried everything: taylor, art editor, cook, producer, seller of design pieces and entertainer. My brain decides randomly what to do and where to go and so I find myself jumping from one situation into another like a cricket sneaking into projects that fascinate me. One thing is for sure, I’m not one of those folks that resist living in an office. I know I’m fickle

Giovanni Pesce:

You can see him riding around Milano on a singlespeed cyclo-cross bike, which guarantees a confortable ride even on damaged, uneven streets.
From the age of 14 to 33 he spent every holiday traveling with nothing but his bike, his tend and his friend Rino. They weren’t doing it for the sport but for the fun. Pedaling silently up the mountains for days and then riding down to the coast looking for parties, hanging out all night and then start pedaling again right after the party to sober up while the sun is rising.
Every time he got back home to Milan it was traumatic. Riding his bike became the only way to survive the city and don’t feel trapped. (more…)

La Pisa and Marco Mucig: the BFF Couple

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

bff_mucigpisa

Who are you Pisa?
Silence worries me, I can ruin every perfect situation, with a 1000 words, I love the conjunctive forms and I can not keep my hair loose. I never switch wardrobe, and I resist only 5 minutes with stilettos, I can not dress as a lady because I use to ride my bike, I use to watch boring movies and listen to music constantly, until I become boring. I’m vegetarian, doesn’t mean I only eat healthy
food, I love to eat and I’m scared of snails and fishes (and the sea with fishes). If mandarins can be seedless, why can’t the sea be without fishes and jellyfishes?

Nicola Ferloni BFF Crazy Train

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

bff_nicola

Hi Nicola, we already know everything about you through newspapers and gossip magazines, but please tell us your true story!

Nicola Ferloni was born on December 6th, 1956 at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica, California.
He started playing guitar at the age of 6 and founded his first band Quiet Riot when he was 16. His passion for music led him to play with Ozzy Osbourne, recording hits such as “Mr. Crowley” and “Crazy Train”.
Despite his short career, he is cited as an influence by many contemporary heavy metal guitarists. He died on March 20th, 1982 in a plane crash while he was on tour, together with his band mate and plane pilot Andrew Aycock and the group’s makeup artist and hairdresser Rachel Youngblood.
Then in 2008 he rose from the flames of hell to help out the nice people of the Bicycle Film Festival.
